Aston Martin customer comes in after buying a car at an auction for cheap..... but wait, it gets worse

First, replace the DB9 up top and switch it for a V8 Vantage Volante. Also, switch the green for a bad red car wrap and the black wheels to chrome 22’s.

A dude bought the 09 Vantage at an auction in New Orleans for pretty cheap. Like, in the $30k range. He brought it here for a CEL. The car turns out needs a grocery list of things. It’s in very rough shape i’ll just say that. More importantly though, it needs both cat converters so it could pass state inspection. The guy couldn’t afford the repair.

After some time, the car comes in, now with shiny new 22 inch chrome wheels, and the guy said he wants us to put 1 of the cat converter. According to him, it just needs bank 1. He has a friend that’s a mechanic..... yeah.... and he said it only needs bank 1. To add to the mess, he wants to watch us do the repair because he thinks we are going to break bank 2 on purpose. “Ya’ll are just trying to rip me off. How are both cats going to fail at the same time?”

Kinja'd!!!

After we turn the car on and do the usual tests, the CEL stays on for bank 2 like we told him. He pays his $4400 bill and in a very pissy mood takes off.

About an hour ago, the car comes back in but this time, with a different guy driving it. He came in wanting to make appointment so we can check his new car. Uhhhh..... huh? New car? We asked him if he know the other guy. He says:

“ oh yeah that’s by home boy. He sold me this car for cheap but it has a CEL. He said the car is perfect besides the CEL. He said it’s just some little sensor or something. When can I bring it it? ”

Oh boy....

After we tell him the situation, he steps outside and is just shouting at his phone for a good 20 minutes.

Drama week has come to a close thankfully. It’s almost 2pm and I finally have time for lunch aka whatever my last $5 can get me lol :]

Plenty of good motorsport and baseball on TV this weekend. My plan... go home, eat, shower, lay down and not get up til Monday morning.

And I thought working for a highline car company would bring an end to dealing with “those kind” of customers.....

I have to admit I’m wary of mechanics sometimes (I know there are great mechanics and bad mechanics you just never know what kind is working on your pride and joy) but watching the whole repair is pretty crazy... Mine just extends to checking they’ve done the work agreed and haven’t damaged anything afterwards.

Woooooooow! What a douchenozzle that guy is.

As far as $5 lunch... I just got back to the office from a little Mexican place that does daily lunch specials that include the meal and the drink. Just had some fideo con pollo with some frijoles and tortillas de maíz on the side. Capped off with some of the best sweet tea around. Total cost? $4.25. ^_^

If anything, it’s probably worse. Guys who were techs in my Land Rover club have plenty of stories of Land Rovers and Range Rovers coming in with christmas tress for dashboards and they’re all rolling on chrome 22+ rims.

If I were to buy a $32k Aston, I’d budget $15k on top of that for bringing it back into good condition range.

BECAUSE BOTH PARTS FACE AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF WEAR AND ARE MADE TO SIMILAR SPECIFICATIONS WHICH MEANS THEY WILL REACT SIMILARLY TO WEAR CYCLES YOU BAG OF ROTTING DILLWEEDS!!!!!

Hell if I spent $32k on an Aston I’d be expecting to pay that again to bring it up to spec.

Have a good weekend, buddy. I’m envious that yours starts a couple hours earlier than mine does :) Funny, I had a lady with a hammered black V8 Vantage on big chrome wheels come by earlier this week, looking for body shop referrals. Why do people bolt these stupid wheels to Astons?

How many miles does it have? It’s interesting that newish cats can go bad. Is this a common thing with Astons?

Here at our Mercedes side, those are more common. Basically, when we see a car on huge dumb wheels (which for some reason are supposed to symbolize wealth) everyone here knows that the customer isn’t going to buy anything.

We get customers and body shops call us all the time about buying Aston body parts. Good thing is that for the majority of Aston body parts, Aston won’t let us sell to non certified shops. They always bitch and want to know why. I just tell them that it’s Aston policy and if they need anything done, call OUR body shop.

Never good when an Aston comes in with body shop repairs we didn’t do.

If I got an Aston for $30K, I’d budget for the trailer to bring it home and another $30K to repair it. What an idiot. I will say though, while that color/wheel combination is more suited for a Lamborghini, I kind of like it in a weird way. Glad this week is getting close to being over for you.

a great way to quickly ruin cats is to dump lots of unburned fuel into them and the easiest way to do that it to constantly rev your car, you know like an assholes love to...

Or the manufacturer bullshit... case in point, we just sold a cabin and engine air filter on a car. A 3, which is a PITA to install the cabin. Tech FINISHES THE JOB and the customer says “Oh, can you take those back, I have a friend that can put them in.”

Bitch, if you have a friend, why didn’t you consult them or take your car to them in the first place???

So the writer tells her they’re already in, and she asks us to take them back out.

We can’t say NO, because we’re too damn afraid of getting plowed on the survey, because our score’s already low due to stupid shit like spilled coffee on the floor, and Mazda will pull it’s Dealer Performance Program money from sales and the GM and corporate will be up our ass why we’re losing money on the hood of all these new cars they made us buy.....

And the new shop I set up with a wholesale account that bought that Copart car now wants to return a bunch of the shit I walked him through the catalog and ordered for him. Just got a text from my weekend counter guy. “CHARGE HIM A BIG ASS RESTOCK FEE” I sent back to him.

I guess the body shop that’s fixing it for this guy (and I asked if it was at a body shop so I knew what it needed since the guy ordering the parts did not) said he didn’t need the stuff he ordered.

I QUIT.

And I was having a nice day off, too. Went hiking, climbed a big tower, took some awesome pics, hustled the Mazda3 on some twisty back road covered in colorful fall canopies of trees, stopped at our 2nd favorite winery to pick up some wine.... that reminds me. I have wine. I need a glass or bottle or two.

Hellz yeah big ass restocking fee. Plus shipping back to Mazda. Do ya’ll have the asshole tax? Still, what a damn headache. No matter how much we preach to them to make sure it’s what they need, these amateurs working at these shops kill the mood. It’s almost a guarantee especially with new accounts.

Try and relax tonight buddy.
